HARE DANCING WITH AMOROUS MAN

The text on this folio of the Breviary (Lesson 9 in the Office of Several Confessors not Priests) deals with the necessity of girding one’s loins and curbing excesses of the flesh. The hare here appears in her seductive rôle (compare no. 11). Her partner looks guiltily over his shoulder, having discarded his shoes and hose.

(B.L. Yates Thompson MS 8, Winter Breviary of Renaud de Bar, fol. 352)
