HARE EXORCISES OLD MAN/SNAIL GROTESQUE The hare casts out the demons obviously afflicting the grotesque with a snail’s body and an old man’s head. The hare uses a ceremonial cross and an asperge to effect the exorcism. The Breviary is commemorating the crown of martyrdom bestowed upon a martyr’s head on this folio. (B.L.
