HARE THE HUNTER
This image occurs in the margins of the Breviary’s Office of the Conversion of St Paul (25/I) conmmemorating Paul’s conversion from persecutor to predicator.  The hare has completely turned the tables on the hunter/tailor whose shears are included as a trophy on the spear with the trussed victim. To achieve credibility, the hare is drawn large enough to hold the spear upon which the tailor hangs and is given a full-sized sword.
The marginal subject supplies a dramatic opportunity to reflect on the implication of a reversal of rôles.
