THE TAILOR SURRENDERS

The tailor holds up his hands in supplication while the hare stands over him, her paw steadying his head. The shears behind him may be a later addition by someone who recognized what this scene was about and they have been painted out; they are pivoted as was to become common later in the second half of the 18th c. and is the modern form. They are included in the image here because they do make the point.
