THE TAILOR SURRENDERS The tailor holds up his hands in supplication while the hare stands over him, her paw steadying his head. The shears behind him may be a later addition by someone who recognized what this scene was about and they have been painted out; they are pivoted as was to become common later in the second half of the 18th c. and is the modern form.
